I used to be a lawyer. I’ve had a few jobs that required me to talk on the phone with people, and I found that I was terrible at it. I would stutter and mumble and make everyone in the world think I was crazy. And when I finally did get a word in edge-wise, my voice would squeak and crack and make me sound like some little kid who had just learned how to use the phone.
So, one day while working in my office at work, I got an idea: Why not get on the phone with people the way they get on the phone with me? I would get all of these unsuspecting people on the phone and just start screaming at them. “YOU FOOL! YOU STUPID PIECE OF SHIT!” I would go off on these people and they would just sit there and take it. They probably thought I was some kind of maniac, but at least I’d finally get a word in edgewise.
It worked great until one day when we were all sitting around chatting about things, someone asked me how my day was going, and when I started screaming into the phone, “SHUT THE HELL UP!” my whole team got up in a panic and ran for cover. That is probably my most embarrassing moment ever.
